Joseph Edwin Redden Sr.

Joseph Edwin Redden Sr., 80, of Milford, died Mon., April 25, in the Milford Regional Medical Center. He was the husband of Joyce L. (Malnati) Redden.

He was born in Milford, son of the late Bennett E. and Mary B. (Kaiser) Redden, and graduated from Milford High School in 1948. He served in the Air Force during World War II and the Korean War.

Mr. Redden was chief of customer service at the Supply Division, Fort Devens, for 15 years, retiring in 1972. He was a member and past commander of the Lawrence J. Heron DAV Post #6; a member of the Sgt. John W. Powers American Legion Post # 59; a former Milford town meeting member; and a member of the former War Memorial Committee. He was also a longtime active member of the Pine Street Baptist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees, was an usher, was active with the adult fellowship group, and was captain of the church’s former bowling league. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, traveling, dining out at local restaurants, and following Boston sports teams, especially the Red Sox.

Besides his wife of 41 years, he leaves two sons, Joseph E. Jr. and his wife, Jayne Redden, and Timothy J. and his wife, Kimberly Redden, all of Milford; a daughter, Debra J. and her husband, William Leonard, of Mendon; a sister, Doris M. Redden of Milford; a brother-in-law, Leo Lucier Sr. of Milford; a sister-in-law, Paula J. Malnati of Milford; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Gough, Justin Redden, Brian Caniff, Michael Caniff, Kimberly Leonard, Amanda Bucchino, Amy Redden and Peyton Redden; two great-grandchildren, Jeremy Redden and Liam Gough; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Wylie Redden, and two sisters, Helen Carroll and his twin sister Mary Lucier.

Funeral services, with full military honors, will be held Fri., April 29, at 11 a.m. in Pine Street Baptist Church, 41 Pine St. Interment will follow in Vernon Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Thurs., April 28, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Buma-Sargeant Funeral Home, 42 Congress St. Memorial donations may be made to the Pine Street Baptist Church, c/o Memorial Fund, 41 Pine St., Milford, MA 01757; or to a charity of one’s choice.
