Holiday Food Drive Collects Money and Items for Food Pantry
A food drive held by First Class Radio WMRC along with the Sardinha family recently raised $2,749.41 plus a van full of food and household items for the Daily Bread Food Pantry.
According to a written release from WMRC, the drive was held for four hours each on Dec. 17 and Dec. 18 at the newly-renovated Dunkin Donuts on Main Street.
"We were amazed by the generosity of the WMRC community that came together to help their neighbors in need," WMRC's President Tom McAuliffe said in the statement.
"It was a fantastic two days and really defined the spirit of the season," added WMRC's Ray Auger. "We thank you all."
WMRC broadcasted from the food drive, according to the release, which included an appearance by Santa Claus, the WMRC staff collecting money and food, and three WMRC shows live on location: Living For The Weekend (Fridays at 9:00am), The YMCA's The Snooze Button (Saturdays at 9:00am) and The Sports Buzz (Saturdays at 10:00am).
John DeAngelo, president of The Daily Bread Food Pantry accepted the check and food during a visit to the pantry on Wed., Dec. 22.
"We have over 300 families who utilize our services here at the pantry," DeAngelo was quoted as saying in the release. "We thank WMRC for their efforts and everyone who donated to the drive. Your generosity is greatly appreciated."
