First Find Yourself Friday of the New School Year a Success!
Over 130 youth attended the first Find Yourself Friday youth event of the school year on Friday, September 28th from 6:30 - 9:00 PM at the Milford Youth Center! The event included a DJ, music, basketball jumps, sumo suits, games and food & beverages for sale. Click here for pictures of event!
For the 3rd year in a row the Center collected gently used and new sneakers to be sent over and handed out by volunteers in December for youth in need in the Dominican Republic. We would like to thank the volunteers and organizations that helped make the night a success: Joe Graziano, Gabbie Graziano, Jenny Medina, Jeanne McGrath, Tyler Liverpoole, Wesley Dumas, Mitchell Mazur, Lisa Bacchiocchi, Justin Barr, members of the Milford National Art Society and JAG Youth Council, Hannafords of Milford and Taylor Rental of Norfolk!
Find Yourself Fridays is a once-per-month event held at the Milford Youth Center on a Friday night. This event gives youth a safe environment to be with their peers and enjoy music, dancing, games and healthy snacks. Find Yourself Friday's mission is to create a healthy, fun and educational environment for our youth while offering them an opportunity to improve their community. Members of the JAG Youth Council meet weekly to develop monthly themes based on what they feel is an important issue facing the community and give a portion of the money collected to the cause of the month. Find Yourself Fridays have been an enormous success over the last year and half, with over 150 youth attending each month and donating to various charities. Some of these include: Milford Housing Authority, Cell Phones for Soldiers, Best Buddies , Compassionate Care ALS, Kony 2012, Anti-Bullying, Milford Play Initiative, Milford Daily Bread Food Pantry, a sneaker collection for youth in the Dominican Republic and finally for JAG members to attend a Youth Venture Leadership Summit.
If you would like to volunteer at these monthly events (next event Friday - October 26th) please contact Jen Ward.
